Footnotes

Provenance: Frank Linville Collection, Malter Sale XXXIX, 2 April 1989, 145, ill.

Three line inscription:
'ala yaday/ 'Abd al-Ra-/ hman ibin 'Umar (?)
"At the hand/s of 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Umar"

The reading of the last name is problematic. It was read as 'Abd al-Rahman b. Tamim (see Morton 1985, p. 107, 286), on a ratl weight in the name of Matar published by (Balog 1976, 531). But A.H. Morton left a later note with the reading "b.'Umar".
