Footnotes

Provenance: Sotheby's 28 May and 1st June 1987, 588.

Three line inscription:

Salama/ ful/li-fals
"Salama/ beans/ worth a fals"

Other vessels stamps in the name of Salama and giving the price as a fals or copper coin are known for "chickpeas" and "chikling vetch" (Balog 1976, 467-468). Stamps for ful "beans" are not so common. According to Ragheb (1996), the very short form of his name indicates that Salama was a "public state slave in charge of weights and measures", with a delegation of authority within the Finance administration.
