Footnotes

Five line inscription:

[bara]ka li-'ab[d]/Allah 'Abd Allah/ Amir al-mu'minin 'ala/ [ya]day 'Ubayd Allah/ ibin Ziyad

"Benediction for the Servant/ of God, 'Abd-Allah/ Commander of the Faithful at/ the hands of 'Ubayd Allad/ b. Ziyad".

The small size script and the inscription distinguish this example and the following Lot from Mansur's Egyptian issues, as this use of baraka is exceptional in Egypt (see Morton 1985, pp. 362-369 for the Egyptian context).
