Syria

of pale bluish-green colour
22mm. diam., 3.99gr.

Footnotes

Provenance: Frank Linville Collection: Malter Sale XXXIX 2 April 1989, 90, ill.

Three line inscription: li-'abd A-/ llah 'Abd/ al-Malik/
"Of the servant of G-/ od, 'Abd/ al-Malik"

Only one other specimen of the same type and same die is known in a Private Collection in Paris. The denomination is not specified but the Parisian example at 2.12gr. could be reasonably seen as a half dinar-weight and the present item at 3.99gr. appears very close to the pre-Reform "arab-sassanid" dirham standard.
