The reverse of each picture bears a label from a Christie's sale, 20th April 1994, lot 31.
It was suggested by A. H. Morton that the paintings were executed by a relative, perhaps the wife, of Sir Edmund Durand, Bt., who was British Resident in Nepal in the 1870s-80s. Nepal was otherwise closed to British subjects at that time.
