Two engraved brass Seals
India, 18th Century

the first of circular form, engraved with four lines of inscription in Persian; the second of octagonal form engraved with five lines of devanagri

Inscriptions: dar bhandari Ratan Singh Ray-i Rayan...Hari Das subah janubandh? raja rajesri Maharaja Sri Abhi Singh (? Abhi Singh of Jodhpur (1725-30). 'The keeper of the stores, Rai Ratan Singh, the Rai of Rais .... Hri Das of the Sawba of Jhanubandh (?) of the Divan of Stores of the Maharaja Sri Abhi Singh'.

Maharaja Sri Abhi Singh was the ruler of Jodhpur between 1724 and 1749.

The word bhandari refers to the person who is in charge of a store or library.
