Six small tinned copper Dishes
Persia, Turkey and India, 17th - 18th Century

each of shallow rounded form with everted rims, the first engraved with inscription to the rim in Turkish and dated AH 1208/AD 1793-94; the second engraved to the rim with a band of cartouches containing floral sprays and intertwining foliate vines, one with inscription; the third engraved to the well with swirling radiating bands alternately containing fish and floral vines, the reverse with a roundel containing a floral spray flanked by two inscription-filled cartouches; the fourth engraved with a band of inscription around the rim, the reverse with two inscription-filled cartouches and a further inscription; the fifth with a central flowerhead surrounded by fish, the rim with a band of cartouches containing foliate vines; the sixth with a six-pointed star and six-petalled flower head within a central roundel

Inscriptions: to the first dish: Haji Muhammad the year 1208; to the second: Its owner Sa'id ibn Ahmad; to the third: Its owner ... Rafi... ; ...'Abdullah, work of the servant of 'Ali; to the fourth: Around the rim: prayers asking God to provide sustenance; to reverse: three owner's inscriptions - 'Abd al-Tayq [son of] 'Abd al-Rahim; Owner Shah-verdi ibn Reza; Owner Muhammad ibn 'Ali.
