An inscribed silver-inlaid alloy bidri Huqqa Base
Deccan, dated AH 1241/AD 1825-26

of bell-shaped form with slightly flaring base, spout and curved narrow handle to side, body decorated with rows of individual flowers and two separate lines of an inscription in nasta'liq, narrow registers with scrolling floral vines and drop shaped motifs above and below, a band of lappets around the rim and a chevron pattern to rim, spout and handle
14 cm. high

'He came [to the world] and tasted the warmth and coldness (i.e. the prosperity and adversity) of the time
He tasted the flavour of dry and moist (i.e. bad and good)
This world is like tobacco
Whoever came, smoked it for a while and left. AH 1241/AD 1825-26.'
