8vo (230 x 145 mm). With silver gelatin print frontispiece, and 9 plates (one of which is folding). Original pebble-grain cloth, spine gilt lettered. Wanting front free endpaper, very lightly rubbed.

Describes the outcome of the Lick Observatory's expedition to the Atacama Desert in Chile in 1893, funded by Phoebe Hearst. The main telescope used was the Observatory's 5-inch Clark objective.
