A white jade square bowl and cover

Qianlong
Of archaistic form, the exquisitely worked body of square form, supported on a hollowed splayed foot, worked in high relief on on all four vertical sides with an archaistic taotie mask issuing forth a ring handle, two with stylised gaping jaws, and two with jaws closed, the mask resembling a butterfly, all above a band of lappets at the foot, the cover of domed sectionrising to a trumpet-shaped knop, finely worked with classic scrolls and upward and downward lotus lappets, the white stone with attractive russet patches.

清乾隆 白玉蝶耳四方蓋盌

白玉,玉質肥潤,局部留皮。器方身,下身收斂,方形圈足,斜方形蓮瓣紋蓋,蓋與盌菱角處飾仿古饕餮紋,瓶身四面各雕一蝴蝶耳,近足處飾變形蓮瓣紋,盌內素面無紋。此方蓋盌玉質上乘,沁色自然,做工醇厚古樸,而四方形盌在清宮玉器中較為少見,其器形摹古創新,卻嚴謹歸正,樸拙唯美。
