Formerly owned by Jacques Dumont de Chassart (1892 - 1983)
A decorated hero of the First World War, Mr Dumont de Chassart received the Belgian Order of Léopold II, the Tunisian Chevalier du Nichan Iftikar (Order of Glory), the crois des évadés (escapees' medal) for escaping a prisoner of war camp, along with a British military medal.
After the war in 1918 Jacques Dumont de Chassart voyaged to Africa, where he walked the Congo on foot shooting big African game, along with trips to India, Vietnam and Argentina. His game book records; four tigers, forty elephants, two hundred buffalo and four hundred antelope. He also learnt many tribal hunting techniques including hunting kangaroos with a Boomerang in Australia.
