A Russian Dragoon Officer's 1881/1909 Pattern Shashka
Reign Of Tsar Nicholas II (1894-1917), Circa 1910

With slightly curved nickel-plated fullered blade (point with minor pitting) cut with two narrow fullers for most of its length along the back on each side, the forte on one side etched with the crowned cypher of Nicholas II, and with the Imperial eagle between sprigs of foliage on the other, the back of the forte etched 'Zlotoust' in Russian, regulation brass hilt cast and chased with laurel decoration and comprising knuckle-guard (old repair at the top) extending to form a downcurved ring quillon, the latter carrying a leather sword-knot, pommel (border trimmed off) with cypher of Nicholas II in an oval on the back, ovoidal pommel-cap with cast floret on top, and ribbed hard-rubber grip, in original wood-lined leather scabbard with brass locket, chape and suspension mount, the last with suspension ring and leather suspension straps
