An 1847 Pattern Helmet Of An Officer In The Queen's Dragoon Guards
The gilt-brass skull (dented, some corrosion overall) with all its embossed foliate mounts, ornate frontal plate displaying a crowned rococo shield bearing unit title 'Queens Dragoon Guards' and central 'VR' cypher, the shield with attendant sprays of laurel (incomplete) and oak, large rose pattern supporters with chin-chain (lining missing), and acanthus plume-holder with black horsehair plume with gilt rose finial, the interior with leather sweat-band (incomplete), and leather peak linings (front peak pierced with a hole); together with a French cavalry trooper's back-plate from a cuirass, 19th century, of steel and shaped to the back, faced in brass and bordered by lining rivets with large domed brass heads, and retaining its shoulder chains (partly detached) each with adjustable clasp (some rust patination) (2)
