Footnotes
John Blyth Fleming was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant in the 9th Devon Rifle Volunteers (Ashburton) on 25 January 1879, and Lieutenant on 1 July 1881 in the 5th (Consolidated) Battalion Devon Rifle Volunteers, later the 5th (Haytor) Volunteer Battalion, The Devonshire Regiment. He was promoted Captain on 28 April 1886 and Honorary Major by 1898. Appointed Lieutenant-Colonel in the same Corps on 18 September 1901, he was by now a holder of the Volunteer Decoration and with an expansion of his name to Coham-Fleming (probably upon his marriage). The London Gazette of 10 September 1904 states 'Lieutenant-Colonel (Honorary Colonel) J.B. Coham-Fleming resigns his commission with permission to retain his rank and to wear the prescribed uniform'
