A Balkan 15-Bore Miquelet-Lock Gun (Paragun)
Early 19th Century

With sighted barrel (light surface pitting) with engraved silver fore-sight and retained by four shaped silver barrel bands embossed and chased with foliage, the breech inscribed 'Segalas London' within an elongated loop along the top flat and stamped with spurious barrelsmith's mark and London proof mark, the rear of the breech, arched back-sight and tang all covered in engraved silver, characteristic lock covered in border engraved silver decorated with a coffee pot and set with three red coral beads (two missing), ebonised full stock inlaid along the fore-stock and around the barrel tang with a diaper pattern of mother-of-pearl within twisted silver wire borders and inlaid in red pigment, enriched with brass and green-stained horn roundels, the panel behind the lock inlaid in red pigment with a Turkish inscription 'May the owner of this gun be of good cheer', figured flared faceted segmented butt (textile covering missing) inlaid with a design of brass and horn roundels en suite and enriched with borders of mother-of-pearl and brass lines enclosing brass pins, silver fore-end mount embossed and chased with flower-heads and triangular panels of foliage, sling loop, and original iron ramrod with spirally twist tip (tip incomplete, trigger missing)
