Two Indian Circular Steel Dhals
Late 19th Century

The first of convex form, with four gold-damascened domed bosses each with pierced border, the outer surface roughly chiselled with bands of gold- and silver-damascened elephants, tigers and peacocks, all against a ground of foliage en suite and centred on a gold-damascened floret, the turned outer edge reinforced with clipped silver-damascened mounts, the interior with padded velvet bracer; the second of similar form (pitted overall), the outer surface roughly chiselled with bands of foliage and calligraphy enriched with four applied brass deities each in an oval, tigers and antelopes all centered on a sun-in-splendour, and with four domed brass bosses each with pierced border (2)
