With brass three-stage cannon barrels, border engraved brass breeches and actions, the former each engraved 'London' on a foliate scroll above and signed beneath the chiselled steel-spring, brass pans (one cock repaired, the other an old replacement, actions defective), border engraved iron tangs, brass trigger-guards each engraved with a flower-head on the bow, swelling figured butts (one split at the barrel tang, the other chipped beneath the side-plate) each carved in relief with a shell behind the barrel tang, cast and chased mounts comprising side-plates each decorated in relief with a trophy of arms and foliage, vacant trophy of arms escutcheons, and butt-caps each with foliage and rocailles involving a crescent (some wear overall, iron parts russet), London proof marks and Bumford's maker's mark (2)

John 2 Bumford was apprenticed to Thomas Hardwell in 1735 and was elected Master of the Gunmakers' Company in 1751 and again in 1756. He was Contractor to Ordnance between 1756 and 1771, to the East Indian Company between 1745 and 1773, and to the Hudson's Bay Company from 1757 until the year of his death in 1775
