A Pair Of 18-Bore Flintlock Duelling Pistols
Early 19th Century

With twist octagonal sighted barrels each with silver fore-sight, breeches each with engraved gold line and gold-inlaid foliate scroll originally engraved 'London', gold-lined touch-holes, border engraved tangs each with back-sight and decorated with a martial trophy and foliage, border engraved flat bevelled detented locks each with gold-inlaid scroll originally engraved with the maker's name, engraved with a starburst behind the rainproof pan and with foliage at the stepped tail, cocks (top of one and both top jaws and screws replaced), engraved safety-catches also locking the steels, and rollers, figured half-stocks (some bruising, each fore-end split on one side) with chequered rounded butts, the flat sides left plain, pommels carved as spirally fluted flower-heads, border engraved spur trigger-guards each with a martial trophy on the bow and pineapple finial, one retaining some original blueing, vacant silver escutcheons and barrel-bolt escutcheons, silver fore-end caps, set triggers, and later horn-tipped ramrods (one ramrod-pipe loose, worn overall), London proof marks (2)
