A 13-Bore Brass-Mounted Flintlock Coaching Carbine

With swamped barrel slightly flared at the muzzle and engraved 'London' within a long engraved loop on the top flat at the breech, foliate engraved tang, signed border engraved rounded lock with dog catch holding the cock (retaining screw replaced) at the half-cock position, figured full stock (some bruising, fore-end with minor repair along one side, chipped above the tail of the lock, old repairs around each retaining pin) with apron around the barrel tang, cast and chased mounts comprising pierced foliate side-plate, vacant escutcheon with a shell above and a baldechin below, border engraved butt-plate with a baldechin on the heel tang, trigger-guard with first pattern acorn finial and a flower-head on the bow (repaired), turned ramrod-pipes, and original horn-tipped ramrod with iron worm, London proof marks and indistinct maker's mark

Charles Pickfatt was made free of the London Gunmakers' Company by patrimony in 1719. He was Contractor to Ordnance between 1727 and 1756, and retired in 1757
