With curved finely watered single-edged blade chiselled on one side of the forte with a cartouche containing a name of God 'Ya Quahdi al-Hajab' in thuluth script, above a circular panel chiselled with a stylised lion, both within slender silver-inlaid borders (silver mostly missing), hilt comprising steel quillon-block probably of earlier date, chiselled on each side with a quatrefoil linked to the quillons by raised lines and retaining some original gold-damascned decoration, pointed langets and tapering quillons with bud-shaped terminals en suite, grip-strap damascened with gold scrollwork, cone-shaped pommel-cap en suite and with leaf-shaped pendant, and rounded dark horn grips, in original wooden scabbard covered in black leather with shaped steel locket (larger mount missing), chape and suspension mounts all damascened with borders of gold foliage, the former with a gold-damascened cartouche on both sides containing the inscription 'no soldier like Ali, no sword like Zulfiqar' in thuluth script, and with two rings for suspension
