A Sardinian 50-Bore Miquelet-Lock Gun
18th/19th Century

With slender russet octagonal barrel (fore-sight missing) retained by an engraved iron barrel band, plain tang, characteristic lock sparsely engraved with foliage and indistinctly signed beneath the mainspring, figured three-quarter stock with two iron plates along the fore-end with engraved foliate borders, a further plate in front of the trigger-guard embossed and chased with foliage inhabited by a lion, an engraved human mask above, the butt with iron border around the plain butt-plate pierced and chased with two rows of linked scallop shells, and with a tapering tubular iron comb engraved en suite, iron mounts comprising large side-plate with foliate engraved border centred on a human mask, engraved spur trigger-guard with brass inlay, engraved trigger, and original slender iron ramrod
