Circle Of Lucas Cranach The Younger (1515-1586)

A portrait of a bearded gentleman in contemporary costume wearing a plumed hat, his doublet with puffed and slashed sleeves and worn over a mail shirt, a triangular powder-flask suspended from his shoulder, holding a wheel-lock longarm in his right hand, the stock with inlaid decoration, and armed with a dagger and a basket-hilted sword, his halberd resting against a tree inhabited by two monkeys, a red squirrel and an owl, his comb morion and seated hound at his feet, his elaborated coat-of arms at the base of the tree involving a great-helm with cockerel crest, the latter holding a sickle
