A Rare Indian Khanda

Deccani, 16th/17th Century
With broad pattern-welded double-edged blade widening to form a spatulate point, russet iron hilt comprising long pointed projections of flattened triangular section extending along both sides of the forte, engraved with scrolling foliage and secured by three transverse rivets on brass washers, the top secured by a brass band and formed as two hooked projections beneath the guard, all engraved en suite and involving florets, the circular guard bent-up on both sides, cup-shaped pommel with turned button finial on a star-shaped washer mounted on a dome, and swelling grip of circular section (some rust patination and pitting)
