A Continental Cutlery Scabbard
16th/17th Century, Probably French

Of hardened brown leather, tooled along the front with a heron perched on foliage, a foliate panel above enclosing a motif, probably a crest, all against a punched granular ground, the back tooled with foliage, the locket and chape with decorative borders, and the sides with ropework terminating in a human mask
21 cm.
