A German Scabbard For A Landsknecht Dagger
Dated 1584

Of iron, the outer side embossed, pierced and chased overall with whorls framing grotesque masks, and with a couple in contemporary costume between male profile heads, the back with roughly chased decoration and inscribed '1.5.8.4. / .H.I.B. / .H.I.A. / .A.I.K. / .M.E. /, crossed suspension mount, and baluster terminal (some rust patination)
28.7 cm.
