A Decorative Wheel-Lock Handgun In German Late 16th Century Style
19th Century, The Lock German Or Dutch, Circa 1650

With cast-iron barrel with ring mouldings at the muzzle, mid-section and breech, decorated along the top with foliage, a merman and a figure on horseback, all against punched grounds, plain tang, russet lock (mechanism partly replaced) with flat bevelled plate, external wheel with retaining bracket, sliding pan-cover, and plain cock, ebonised full stock (fore-end cap missing) carved in bas-relief with decorative motifs, a dragon and monsters, all on a granular ground, white horn butt-cap of octagonal section engraved on each side with an armoured figure between C-scrolls and scrollwork, all on cross-hatched grounds, etched trigger-guard, and button trigger
The lock 16.5 cm., 47 cm. overall
