An English Bullet Crossbow
By Higham, Warrington, Early 19th Century

With slender steel bow, folding adjustable fore-sight acting against a side-spring and mounted above the turned acorn-shaped terminal, expertly replaced strings with brass spacers, signed folding back-sight indistinctly engraved with a naked figure drawing a bow, built-in gaffle engraved with foliage and retained by a sprung catch at the rear, figured flat-sided tiller with gun butt and chequered grip, and steel mounts comprising foliate engraved bow mount and scrolled side-plates, butt-plate with a martial trophy on the heel, and trigger-guard decorated en suite and with pineapple finial (steel parts with some light pitting)
80 cm.
