A Left-Hand Dagger
Early 17th Century, Probably German Or Italian

With tapering double-edged blade of flattened diamond section with central fuller over most of its length on each side pierced with slots and small circular holes, fullered rectangular ricasso en suite, iron hilt with flat arched quillons widening towards the rounded tips, side-ring filled with a plate pierced with circular holes, rounded pommel with button, and spirally-twist grip bound with twisted steel wire between Turk's heads, the guard and pommel encrusted in silver with foliage centred on a winged cherub's head on the side-ring and on both sides of the pommel, and retaining traces of gilding in places
