A Left-Hand Dagger
Late 16th/Early 17th Century, Probably German Or Italian

With sharply tapering double-edged blade of stiff diamond section cut with narrow fullers over most of its length on all sides pierced with minute circular holes and keyhole slots, fluted rectangular ricasso flattened for the thumb on one side, iron hilt (some wear) comprising straight quillons of circular section widening towards the tips, the latter each encrusted in silver with a female face, compressed barrel-shaped pommel encrusted in silver with three mustachioed male profile heads against a ground of incised chevrons, ovals and dots retaining traces of silver inlay, and grip bound with plain and twisted silver wire indented to from a check pattern
