An Indian Khanjar
19th Century

With finely watered slightly recurved tapering blade double-edged over half its length to the point, the cutting-edges polished bright, the back cut with a medial scrolled cusp, blued hilt of flattened oval section with characteristic scrolled lobes at the base, and rounded pommel of mutton-fat jade set in gold with two cabochon emeralds and a small oval ruby, in its original wood-lined black leather scabbard with blued shaped locket and chape, the latter with two pierced suspension loops, one with plaited purple suspension cord (some areas of surface rust and pitting)
