An Ear-Dagger In Spanish Or Venetian Style Of The Late 15th/Early 16th Century
19th Century

With tapering double-edged blade of flattened diamond section, one edge extending into the slightly hollowed triangular ricasso, the latter waisted at the top and made in one with the grip, both gilt and incised with running foliage, grip-scales formed from two shims of gilt-copper bent-out at the top to form two typical eared pommels each with scalloped decoration, and retaining its ivory ear- and grip-scales with incised line decoration highlighted with black pigment, the ear-scales each with fluted domed retaining stud pierced with four holes
