A Rare North Indian Dagger Hilt

Late 16th/Early 17th Century, Probably Rajasthan
Of russet iron, made in one and comprising downswept quillons chiselled in the round with a ram's head and elephant's head terminal respectively, the latter with tapering recurved knuckle-guard with nilgai-head terminal, tapering grip of flattened ovoidal section between turned and fluted mouldings, and characteristic downbent pommel with makara-head terminals and surmounted by a pair of elephants raising their trunks above a pierced foliate finial
