A Mediterranean (Corsican) Silver-Mounted Dagger, Two German Sporting Knives, A Small Spanish Navaja, A Knife, And A Dagger
18th/19th Century

The first with sharply tapering blade double-edged over most of its length and etched with a false damascus pattern enclosing the faint inscriptions 'Vendetta Corsaro' and 'Morte al nemico', and swelling wooden grip of diamond section with engraved silver mounts and inlaid with small panels of mother-of-pearl and tortoiseshell between roped silver straps; the second with broad single-edged blade finely chiselled with rococo scrollwork in relief against a matted ground on each face, and silver-mounted natural buckhorn grip, the tall domed pommel decorated with four applied oak leaves; the third with broad blade stamped 'IHS Maria Joseph' on one face and dated 1854 on the other, the brass-inlaid iron handle with dark horn grips; the fourth with curved blade punched with scrolls and waved lines enclosing an inset pierced brass panel, the hilt with cowhorn grip-scales covered with incised brass; the fifth fitted with a spirally fluted brass grip and pommel from a mid-18th century small-sword; the last a small Spanish hunting dagger with slender blade, baluster white-metal hilt, and leather scabbard (6)
