A Viking Sword Of Petersen Type R Variant And Wheeler Type VI
10th/11th Century, Probably East European

In excavated condition, with broad slightly tapering double-edged blade, hilt comprising copper-alloy cross-piece of slightly arched section cast and chased along both sides with a zig-zaged pattern punched with minute dots and terminating in a circle at each end, flat tapering tang, and lobated pommel cast and chased with a panel of crossed circles along both sides
71.3 cm. blade, 85.4 cm. overall
