An Islamic Axe, And A Continental Butcher's Cleaver
The First 18th/19th Century, The Second 17th Century Or Later

The first with large crescentic axe-head (pitted) incised on one side in nastaliq script 'Ya Allah' together with a couplet in praise of the Caliph Ali, and on the other with the declaration of faith, integral circular socket and waisted block-shaped peen, on later wooden haft of circular section; the second entirely of iron (surface rust and pitting), with very broad slightly curved single-edged blade made in one with the slightly curved tapering handle terminating in a hook of circular section (2)
