With bright tapering fullered double-edged blade etched along the forte over half its length on both sides with crowned 'VR' cypher and symmetrical designs of foliage, the forte on both sides with thistles, one side above the maker's details, and above a gilt-lined 'proof' mark on the other, and regulation steel guard (originally nickel-plated) retaining its buff leather liner faced in red woollen cloth and with maroon tassel, in its russet steel scabbard with two rings for suspension
