An 1831 Pattern General Officer's Mameluke-Hilted Sabre
By Hobson & Sons, 135 Lexington St, London, W-, Late 19th Century

With slightly curved bright blade double-edged at the clipped-back point and etched over half its length on both sides with foliage involving a crowned 'VR' cypher on one side, and crossed sword and baton on the other, regulation hilt with brass mounts including guard cast and chased on both sides with foliage centred on a crossed sword and baton within a wreath, ivory grips (one split, some repairs), and pommel pierced for a sword-knot, in its brass scabbard (some denting) with two rings for suspension
