A Mameluke-Hilted Officer's Levee Sabre Of The 18th Hussars
By Cater & Co., 56 Pall Mall, London, Late 19th Century

With slightly curved bright blade double-edged at the clipped-back point and etched over half its length on both sides with symmetrical designs of foliage involving the regimental badge and motto above 'Peninsula' and 'Waterloo' battle honours on one side, and crowned 'VR' cypher on the other, gilt-mounted hilt comprising guard with bud-shaped quillons and cast and chased with foliage on each side against a stippled ground, the ecusson on one side with applied silver regimental badge and motto, ivory grips each with two gilt florets (one missing) over three retaining screws, pommel pierced for a sword-knot, and retaining its bullion sword-knot, in its silver-plated scabbard with pierced gilt-brass mounts embossed and chased with symmetrical foliage centred on ovals, and with two rings for suspension
