A Commemorative Sword
By Wilkinson Sword, 20th Century

With highly polished blade with flat medial rib on both sides etched 'Poyle Mill Works, 1939-1960. Wilkinson Sword Colnbrook - Graviner Colnbrook.' on a gilt ground and between gilt lightening strikes, gilt-copper hilt comprising bowl-guard set with a constellation of silver stars and retaining its red leather liner, pommel and back-piece in one, the former formed as an eagle's head, and wire-bound fishskin-covered grip, in its wooden scabbard covered in green leather with gilt copper mounts each with chevroned borders, the locket with applied eagle on each side, the chape with foliate shoe with eagle-head terminals

This sword may have been intended to commemorate twenty-one years of the partnership between Wilkinson and Graviner. Wilkinson acquired the Poyle Mill Works in 1939 and, in partnership with Graviner, produced Aero Fire Extinguishers for the military
