A French Ormolu-Mounted Naval Officer's Sword
Late 19th Century

With tapering fullered blade double-edged at the point, the back at the forte etched with Klingenthal maker's details, hilt comprising ormolu half-basket guard cast, pierced and chased with foliage involving a fouled anchor within a rococo cartouche on one side, eagle-head rear quillon, knuckle-guard, pommel and back-piece decorated en suite with the guard, ribbed composition grip, and blue cord sword-knot with bullion tassel set with silver stars, in original black leather scabbard with ormolu mounts cast, pierced and chased with naval motifs, shells and bulrushes, two rings for suspension, and retaining much of its original gilding
