An Indian 28-Bore Matchlock Gun
18th Century

With russet sighted barrel retained by six shaped brass barrel bands, petalled at the flared octagonal muzzle, decorated with a design of gold-damascened chevrons and set with glass beads in imitation of rubies, breech with standing back-sight and damascened with gold foliage set with glass beads in imitation of rubies and emeralds, tang en suite, pan with domed pivoting brass cover, brass side-plates pricked with flowering foliage, hardwood full stock retaining much of its painted foliate decoration and set with line engraved ivory panels around the barrel tang, the panels secured by brass pins, ivory butt-plate with pierced border, slender brass trigger-plate with tapering terminals, pierced brass arabesque trigger, iron pricker retained by a chain, brass sling loop, and original iron ramrod with baluster tip (some wear overall)
