A Fine Persian Kulah Khud
Qajar, 19th Century

Of finely watered wootz steel, with domed skull chiselled overall with three rows of graduated cartouche-shaped panels of foliage with gold-damascened line borders, the larger panels at the base variously inhabited by hunting and courtly scenes, the medial panels with tigers and hawks attacking prey, and those at the top with birds and animals, the rim bordered by panels of gold-damascened Persian verses in cursive script against a ground of chiselled foliage, and quatrefoil-shaped panels between chiselled with recumbent deer and pairs of birds, all between borders of gold-damascened beadwork and foliage, fitted with two plume-holders, central threaded spike of diamond section and adjustable nasal with shaped finials, all decorated en suite, vandyked camail of small butted rings interrupted by rows and groups of brass rings, and in fine condition
