A Pair Of Indian Gold-Damascened Dastana (Arm Guards)
19th Century

Of finely watered wootz steel, the main plates shaped to the fore-arm and each with gold-damascened embossed oval, decorated overall with borders of gold-damacened foliage and with hinged wrist-plates en suite, the latter each secured by a staple, the main edges reinforced with gold-damascened plates with cusped edges, retaining their padded red velvet liners and mail hand-defences and retained by dome-headed copper nails, the mail of butted brass and steel rings forming a diaper pattern (2)
