An Ottoman Silver-Mounted Sabre
19th Century

With earlier European curved fullered blade double-edged towards the point and etched with a panel of foliated strapwork against a hatched ground on both sides of the forte, one side with a sun-in-splendour beyond, and with a man-in-the-moon and stars on the other, hilt of karabela form embossed and chased with foliage within chased borders, comprising pointed langets and tapering quillons with flared tips, and grip rising up to an arched beak-shaped pommel (knuckle-chain missing), in original wood-lined silver scabbard with shaped suspension mounts, all decorated en suite with the hilt, and with two silver rings for suspension
