An Indian Shamshir For A European Officer
19th Century

With curved single-edged blade of finely watered wootz steel, steel hilt of mameluke form comprising pointed langets with faceted tapering quillons and button terminals, swelling grip with flat ivory grip-scales (some splits) secured by two transverse brass pins on brass washers, and silver pommel formed in the round as a tiger's head pierced for a sword-knot, in modern velvet-covered scabbard with original iron chape (hilt and chape lightly pitted)
