An Indian Khanjar
19th Century

With curved tapering double-edged blade (minor rust patination) with slender medial ridge flanked by an incised line over nearly its entire length on both sides, pale green-grey nephrite hilt of scrolled form and indented for the fingers, inlaid at a later date with cabochon rubies (some missing) forming designs of foliage, in its wooden scabbard entirely covered in gold embossed and chased with symmetrical designs of arabesques and foliage, the outside set with poor quality cabochon rubies and emeralds at the top beneath two lines of turquoise beads (some losses and replacements), the chape (repaired) bound with gold wire between borders en suite, and large bud-shaped terminal
