Two Indian Katars
18th/19th Century

The first with tapering double-edged blade of reinforced diamond section at the point and recessed over half its length on both sides, each recess chiselled with a central cypress tree bordered by foliage, characteristic steel hilt chiselled overall with gilt foliage and comprising tapering side-bars, and swelling baluster grips divided by two gilt quatrefoils, in its wooden scabbard (minor damage) covered in blue velvet with silver chape (terminal missing) chased with foliage; the second of similar form, the blade cut with converging fullers and medial line on each side, the hilt decorated overall with a trellised design of gold-damascened trefoils, in its wooden scabbard covered in burgundy velvet with pierced chape en suite with the hilt (2)
