A Continental Powder-Horn
Probably 18th Century

Formed from a section of natural cowhorn, charmingly incised in scrimshaw work with broad horizontal bands enclosing foliage inhabited by wild animals, a unicorn and hinds, the animals including a tiger, a lion, a bear and a stag, some with human faces, turned tapering nozzle, silver basal mount with cusped upper edge (base-plug missing), and short projection at the base pierced for suspension rings
32.5 cm.
