A French Small-Sword With Chiselled And Gilt Hilt
Mid-18th Century

With waved tapering double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section etched with agricultural trophies and foliage over both sides at the forte, a tulip on one side and the initials 'ISB' on the other, the etching retaining faint traces of original gilding, characteristic iron hilt chiselled in low relief overall with martial and musical trophies, rocailles and foliage, all picked out in gold and against finely punched gold grounds, the underside of the shell-guard with a field gun and a mortar, and swelling grip bound with twisted silver wire
