A French Small-Sword With Chiselled And Gilt Hilt
Mid-18th Century

With sharply tapering blade of hollow triangular section etched with a cross-legged Turk on both sides of the forte above the maker's details 'Souafsc neven et Successeur de Mr. Guyon au Roy de la suricsur Le Pont St. Michel à Paris', characteristic russet iron hilt chiselled in relief with ribboned flowers picked-out in gold and against finely punched gold grounds, mostly framed by gilt ribboned borders highlighted with lines of minute gold dots, and replacement grip bound with copper ribbon and twisted copper and brass wire
